A little about Jane...
Jane Avery is a Dunedin based fashion designer and artisan maker specialising in the production of limited edition, bespoke and one-of-a-kind coats, accessories and homewares.
Her exclusive handcrafted Lapin coats combine beautiful global textiles with New Zealand Wild Rabbit Eco-Fur. Speaking to a love of couture and the creation of heirlooms, Lapin presents a responsibly sourced pest resource as a practical luxury eco-product.
With a 25 year background in television journalism and media production, Jane began her fur fashion label in 2016, driven by irrepressible creative urges, a need as an ex-Aucklander to insulate from the Southern cold and a desire to make good with an under used New Zealand pest resource… namely wild rabbits.
Jane’s tailoring abilities have been honed over 20 years with recent years devoted to apprenticing in the craft of the furrier at Dunedin’s historic Mooneys Furs. Upon Mooneys’ retirement in early 2020, Jane has continued their esteemed tradition of crafting fine possum fur decor items and made to measure garments and accessories. She also offers ‘Lapin ReVintage’, a service focussed on repairing, restyling and repurposing vintage furs.
Jane works from her studio/gallery at 130 Lower Stuart St, Dunedin welcoming visitors by appointment as well as long distance commissions.
